Van Acht Logistics has a rich history that dates back to the founding of the company in 1930. What started as an agricultural business has evolved into a specialist in the storage and transport of a wide range of goods. The passion for quality and innovation is still the driving force behind our success.
In 1930, the farm was established as a family agricultural business, with cows, pigs, chickens, arable farming and fruit growing as its core activities. Harvested fruit was sold at local markets. The family business has since been passed down from generation to generation, and today the fourth generation has taken over the business.
Out of the need to preserve our crops in the best possible way and with an eye to the future, we built our first mechanical cold store in 1968. This marked an important transition from agricultural activities to specialized storage. What started out as a practical solution for our own use quickly grew into a service with which we also helped others to store their products under the right conditions.
Due to the growing fruit trade, the company stopped its agricultural activities. In the 1980s, the third generation took over and focused on the storage of produce for third parties, expanding cold stores and entering into new partnerships. The focus shifted from cultivation to storage for other companies. The market trade expanded, reducing the importance of the orchard and decreasing the quality of the company's own apples. Eventually they became obsolete.
The cold storage rooms previously used for market trade fruit are now also used to chill customer products.
Our customers' storage needs continue to grow. Therefore, we are expanding our refrigeration capabilities significantly. Capacity will be increased fivefold in the foreseeable future.
We are becoming specialists in refrigerated, frozen and unconditioned storage.
The market trade is divested and taken up by 2 two first-time employees. Until 2023, they will retain their position at the refrigerated company.
This move shifts the focus entirely to the storage of our customers' products.
Operations expanded by purchasing and leasing an office building.
In addition, in the same week, land was purchased and construction began on a multi-tenant business building in Sint-Oedenrode.
The collective business building in Sint-Oedenrode is being completed and provides office space for 8 companies.
Together with an associate, a campground is taken over in Cromvoirt. It serves as a base for migrant workers from a nearby employment agency.
Labyrint has been renting in the business building in Sint-Oedenrode for some time and is looking for co-investors to expand the business.
In addition to office buildings, we started to build logistics buildings. The 18,000-square-meter building in Eindhoven was completed in 2012. Initially it serves for our own logistics operation, then after a year it is leased to ASML/DHL. They are still located here to this day.
Labyrint grows and, together with another party, founded Futuris. Futuris focuses on care assistance in the Eindhoven region. They set up work projects to guide clients back towards the labor market.
In collaboration with Wageningen University, these special CATT treatments were started.
It is an environmentally friendly treatment method against plant pests.
Unitio is founded under the banner of Labyrint and targets youth with similar problems but coming from the criminal circuit.
The campsite will be redeveloped into Landgoed de Zandleij; a recreation park in the upper segment. Tenants can rent a vacation home here for a medium to long period (3-6 months). The park will be developed in 3 phases. The shovel goes into the ground for phase 1.
Oda focuses on assisting seniors with dementia. They try to fill the gap between being able to continue living independently at home and the nursing home.
To meet our high energy needs, we have installed more than 16,000 solar panels at various locations. We now generate more energy than we consume.
To serve our customers even better, in 2022 we expanded our capacity with two specialized locations in Sint-Oedenrode and Veghel. The location in Veghel is suitable for both unconditioned and refrigerated storage, with a capacity of 50,000 pallets.
This building is the first in the Netherlands with the 2020 BREEAM "Outstanding" rating and is equipped with 12,500 solar panels. This expansion allows us to work more efficiently, store larger volumes and optimize our logistics services.
Van Acht joins in July with a minority stake in Covolt. It is a startup with a focus on energy transition. The ambition is great and for this reason Van Acht and YouKnights have joined as active shareholders to accelerate the growth and realize the ambition. Each from his own network and experience complements each other seamlessly.
In total, the park consists of about 125 homes, of which 35 have been sold privately and the rest are intended for rental.
Meanwhile, 2,500 solar panels have been installed on these homes.
After 13 years, the decision was made to sell Labyrint. The company has since grown into a broad healthcare company with multiple disciplines and a workforce of 240 employees.
After an intensive tender process, we were the lucky winner of the package. We have been providing services to Mars for over 20 years and by winning this tender, volumes will grow substantially from 2025.
This battery with a storage capacity of 12MWh and a capacity of 6MW involves Huawei's largest installation in the Benelux countries.
The battery will be deployed using software from Covolt to balance the grid.
We purchased an electric truck and installed an associated fast charger. This truck will provide insight into the current state of electric transportation.
Project was established with partners Van der Sangen transport and Mars.
Almost 2 years after the intensive construction process of our brand new warehouse in Veghel, we have officially received the BREEAM certificate.
The highest possible Outstanding rating is a fine crowning achievement.
With a partner, an electric truck loading ramp is being developed. Here there is room for 10 trucks to charge simultaneously at high power.
Power for these trucks is provided by our solar panels and batteries.
The first steps have been taken for the expansion of our warehouse in Veghel. We plan to realize the 100,000 square meters of warehouse space available to us in phases.
The targeted start of the first phase is mid-2025.
