Our Veghel location is the most sustainable distribution center in the Netherlands and carries the prestigious BREEAM-NL Outstanding certification. BREEAM-NL has been the certification method for sustainably built environments since 2009. When building and furnishing our Veghel location, we focused on sustainability from the very beginning:
At our Sint-Oedenrode location, we have invested in the latest refrigeration and freezing technologies to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. As a result, this location has been completely natural gas-free since 1991. The waste heat released by our refrigeration plants is used to heat the offices.
In 2023, we implemented smart software that allows us to cool when there is an excess of green energy, such as on sunny days. Additionally, all 50 cooling cells can be controlled individually, allowing us to save energy without compromising on storage quality.
We believe in the power of collaboration. We choose our partners carefully based on shared values and a common focus on sustainability. By building long-term relationships, we can grow together and develop innovative solutions. With partners like Covolt, we are working on energy projects such as battery storage and smart software. This allows us to use energy more efficiently and even contribute to relieving the electricity grid. This way we can become part of the solution to grid congestion.
Our locations in Sint-Oedenrode and Veghel are close to each other and our customers. This minimizes transport distances and the associated emissions. Additionally, we have equipped our locations with charging stations for electric vehicles and are prepared for electric trucks. For short distances, we are working on the implementation of fully electric transport. Together with our customers, we aim to create the most efficient logistics chain.
In collaboration with Solisplan, we have installed a total of 30,000 solar panels at our locations and affiliated companies since 2023. This ensures that we can fully meet our own energy needs. Moreover, we generate enough green energy to supply over 4,000 households. In this way, we contribute to a more sustainable energy system and support our local community.
To reduce the use of chemicals, we at Van Acht Logistics utilize biological pest control. Our Sint-Oedenrode location is an accredited CATT (Controlled Atmosphere Temperature Treatment) facility. This innovative and biological technique, developed in collaboration with Wageningen University, helps eliminate pests in plants without the use of harmful chemicals. This strengthens our commitment to sustainable solutions in all our processes.
